2 days ago my friends and I decided to give this place a try. It is situated at the northern (almost most norther) tip of Penang Island. As a local, I think it is not a bad idea to try out something in my backyard rather than go to the sorts of Sunway Lagoon. It took us a 30 minute drive from Gurney Plaza.
The car park was quite nicely designed with atap roofs. There was ample parking space perhaps due to the fact that there were less people during the weekdays.
The structure of the reception/ front counter is strikingly awesome. You do not have to book your tickets online if you are not going there in the peak season. You could have a view of the ticket pricing and FAQs on their website. They have quite a decent website. Anyway, we paid RM60 per person.
Basically the restrictions are for kids and heavily obese people but this board at the entrance simply listed down all the activities that can be found in the park.
A glance of the activities in the park. This is called Monkey Business and there are three levels with ascending difficulty. Level one shouldn't pose a problem but level two will need more endurance and courage. Not to mention being fit for the challenges, which will require lot of climbing and balancing skills. We did not try level three as we were quite tired after all the physical activity used.
Do not need to worry if you did not bring along the map you received at the entrance as there are many of these maps over the park.
The restrooms were well maintained.
No outside food is allowed in their premises. So literally you are forced to dine in the park and mind you, it's exorbitant. Well I would get back to lunch later.
One interesting thing that I find about the park is that the signboards they use are quite creative. Just look at this one at the dining area. It says feeding time. The theme of this park is actually to connect with nature, not connect to wifi. So as the name suggested, please do not ask for any wifi password =) In addition, we were being like 'animals' by participating in the activities. There were activities that require climbing (monkeys), flying fox, climbing up coconut trees, tarzan' rope and so on. Hence, lunch time is unsurprisingly known as feeding time.
This is the topup counter near the dining area. No cash transactions will be performed in the park besides this counter. They use a special debit card for all monetory transactions. But generally you only have to pay for food and water. (Yes, you can't bring water inside the park)
The escape debit card.
A wrist band is also available for rent at a price of RM5. It is used solely to store your belongings in your locker. I suggest rental of the locker as the park is only a per-entry basis. We stored our wallets, phones and water in the locker.
Some other interesting signboards that warn up about flying fox activities undergoing above your head. But there is nothing to worry about. Everything is very safe in the park.
The road from monkey business leading all the way to the back where you can find the tarzan's rope.
So we ordered Nasi Lemak for lunch. For god's sake it cost us RM6/pax for this not-at-all-interesting piece of lunch. As you can see, there is only rice, egg, 3 pieces of cucumber, nuts, some ikan bilis and sambal. You could easily obtain this for RM2 anywhere along the streets. Things are pretty pricey in here and I advice you just to have something simple or nothing at all. A bottle of mineral water of 1.5litres cost us RM4 anyway. So, just eat a little to prevent your stomach from grumbling but not too much as usual. After all, you are going for more physical activity.
Happy faces after filing up our tummies. We had lunch at 230pm. Once you had lunch, the chances are that you will be lazy to continue to enjoy the other activities as before lunch.
The absailing tower which we did not try out.
The tarzan's rope is quite fun if you are seeking some exciting experiences. It is about 3 stories high and the excitement comes from the swaying effect. But it was the sudden descend before the giant swing which caught all of us off guard. We ended up playing this thing twice.
Head and protective gear all set.
We finally decided to call it a day around 5pm as we were all exhausted from the whole-day's workout. We did not know they had plenty of bathrooms for us to shower before going home. There were a total of 5 bathrooms in the male bathroom. Hence, I asked the guard for the permission to get our stuff form the car in which he agreed. So we had a good bath before hitting the roads. Please note that all they provide is a bathroom with shower only. No soap (unless you want to use the soap for cleaning hands) or towels are provided, even if you have the money to pay for it.
This signboard is located in the souvenir's store. As told by the chief staff, there will be a water theme park opposite the road by the end of 2015. It is currently under construction. If they could produce something like in the drawings then it would be much better than the one in Sunway Lagoon.
In all, we spent RM69.25/pax for the whole experience. We were not allowed to hold cameras once we are involved in the activities and hence the lack of interactive photos of us completing the tasks. If you wish to be filmed, you need a friend to be stationed on the ground to capture the memories of the day. I would say it is a truely wonderful experience as we were able to enjoy many facilities such as the 150 meter flying fox, absailing and tubby racer which we would never be able to try out unless you have been to the national service or in the military service. I have been to the national service but I still find this a memorable experience that you too, should not miss out while you are young. I even saw a young European boy as young as 6 years old in the park!
